There comes a time in a young girl’s life when she steps out of her pre’s and enters her tee’s, and during this transition, she’s probably going to want to change up her room to make it look prettier or cooler or more chic, depending on her personality.
I’ll admit that my room doesn’t hold much of a personality. It’s got a whole lot of books because I used to read, and then your dressers with old-time dolls and such from my childhood and a little shrine for my dog that passed away, but that’s it.
I was never one for specific decorations that revolved around a certain topic.
But that’s not the case for every single teenage girl, because my nieces have rooms that really vocalize their personalities via everything you take in visually, and so here’s a list of bedroom decor ideas for teenage girls if they need some inspiration for those bland walls and empty space.
The less room they have to throw clothes on the ground, the likelier they are to put their clothes in a clothesbasket, right?
Color Schemes
Bold Colors
When redesigning a teenage girl’s bedroom, bold colors can really make a statement to who they are and probably imitate their behavior in standing out.
While I’m a huge fan of bold colors and enjoy having hair that’s different colors all throughout the year, I’m actually quite the introvert, despite gaining attention from the boldness of being outside the norm. So, y’know, just because a teenager likes black doesn’t mean they’re emo, and just because they prefer a depressing blue over a vibrant one, doesn’t mean you should worry.
I told my mom I wanted to paint my room black and she told me I wasn’t allowed to be a vampire in her home.
It doesn’t always work out for us girls sometimes.
For now, we’re thinking of bold of being along the lines of striking pinks, brilliant blues, or rich purples. These colors can capture attention through a feature wall, bedding, or decorative throw pillows to make a standout statement without being too dominating for a teenage girl’s room.

Pastel Colors
Alternatively, pastel colors offer a soothing and elegant charm, perfect for a teen’s whimsical retreat, and a kind of color scheme that fits one of my niece’s personality types. Colors like soft lavender, pale pink, mint green, and baby blue can transform the bedroom into a serene haven, though when I think of baby blue, I think of a baby boy’s room, so maybe a soft sky blue?
You can combine these hues with white furniture for a light and airy feel, or mix with natural wood textures for a more grounded ambiance, meaning a sky blue within a mixture of white would make for an imitation of a clear, yet cloudy day outside.

Inspirational Wall-Pieces
Creating a gallery wall is a fantastic way to personalize a bedroom and showcase her interests and style. Mix and match different elements like framed quotes, photographs, or original art pieces. It’ll really showcase her mind and what she’s into–such as with me I’m a sucker for detailed art pieces with symbolism to them.
I acquired a print from a booth at GDEX one year of a snake wrapping itself around a bird and while it sounds a bit dark, it’s a really pretty piece in my eyes.
The beauty of a gallery wall lies in its ability to grow and evolve over time, truly capturing the essence of her teenage years and how she grows in her interests.

DIY Wall Decor
If your teenager is more of a hands-on approach type of gal, consider DIY wall decor options instead of buying something that’s already said and done without much input or guidance on how it’s created.
As in, lacking a personal touch.
DIY type of decor could include homemade canvases painted in her favorite colors, string art, or even a mural if she’s artistically inclined. These projects not only add a unique touch to the room but also provide a fun activity to express her creativity.
Plus, DIY decor can be a budget-friendly way to update her space periodically.

Stylish Comforters and Throws
Comfort is key when it comes to designing a teenage girl’s bedroom. Well, maybe that and color-matching, because everyone likes walking into an aesthetically pleasing room.
With that in mind, you can fancy it up with stylish comforters in vibrant colors and playful patterns that reflect her personality. Mixing and matching different textures and materials such as plush, knit, or fleece adds a cozy layer to the bedding. I myself have regular sheets, a heating blanket, and then a weighted blanket to top it off.
Yeah, I know, not exactly teenage material.
But add in a variety of throw pillows for extra flair and comfort, and at least she’ll have the perfect bed for hours of reading or lounging.

Canopy Bed Drapery
Canopy beds aren’t just for fairy tales! In fact, they’re actually good for keeping mosquitos out, if that’s a problem where you live. I had a mosquito net around my bed at some point, but I think I would’ve liked it better if it was actually called a bed canopy.
I mean, maybe it was, but I was never told that.
Mine was just black, but by adding light, airy drapes around the bed, you can create a magical and dreamy atmosphere in any teenage girl’s room. It’s a setup that not only looks pretty but also provides a bit of privacy and a feeling of serene isolation.

Furniture and Storage Solutions
Versatile Shelving Units
In a teen’s bedroom, it’s essential to have plenty of versatile storage solutions, otherwise they’re just going to throw shit all over the place like I do. Modular shelving units can be customized according to needs and available space. They can hold everything from books to collectibles, showcasing her interests while keeping the space tidy.
Boy it’d be nice if I had a shelving unit to fit all the books I own. For now, they’re in a chest that’s in my closet, in two different bins under my bed, and on my dresser shelves.
Yeah…it’s a lot.

Space-Saving Furniture Pieces
For smaller spaces, choosing the right furniture can maximize both style and functionality. Consider multifunctional pieces like ottomans with storage (my mom uses one to store extra blankets for the grandkids when they come over), bed frames with drawers, or fold-down desks for the teenagers who like to work on things while sitting down.
These furniture items are practical without sacrificing style, providing all the necessary space for storage and study while maintaining a clutter-free sanctuary.
That one’s for you, parents.

Fairy Lights and String Lights
Fairy lights and string lights provide a soft, dreamy glow that can create a magical and inviting atmosphere. I’m pretty sure both of my nieces use them to light up areas of their room. In fact, the oldest has lights along the entire top siding of the ceiling walls and when you choose a certain color, it blinds.
Definitely not recommended to put it on pure white in the dead of night when you can’t see a thing.
Aside from that, they can be draped over a bed frame, woven around curtain rods, or hung across the ceiling to illuminate the room with a gentle, less eye-searing light. Done right, it’s perfect for creating an environment that’s ideal for winding down at night.

Stylish Desk Lamps
For functionality paired with style, a chic desk lamp is essential. Whether she’s studying or doing homework, having a bright, focused light will help keep her on task. That or she’ll be too focused on how cute her lamp is that time goes by with nothing being done.
Desk lamps come in a variety of styles, from more sophisticated metallic models to colorful, flexible designs that can bend and twist to suit her needs and match her room’s decor theme.
Of course, for this listing we’re not going for sophisticated designs–those are for bland adults.

Studying Desks
Consider integrating a studying desk by utilizing corner spaces to save up on room. Most desks will have shelves for books, a place for a lamp for adequate lighting, and you can even purchase a bulletin board or magnetic dry erase board for reminders and inspiration.
This dedicated space helps minimize distractions and maximizes focus, though with all the items they surround themselves with, does it really help with either of those?

Vanity Tables
Teenage girls are typically just getting started with stealing Mom’s makeup supplies in order to try them out on themselves, and if they love the look of makeup and styling, a vanity table serves as a wonderful addition to their room. It beats having to stand up in the bathroom and stare at yourself while hovering over a sink, at least.
Choose a table with ample storage drawers and a good-sized mirror. Mirror lights can make a glamorous difference and help with precision in makeup application, though some lights can be more for show if that’s what she likes.
A vanity table can double up as an additional study space when needed, offering versatility in a small bedroom.

Hanging Planters
We’ve talked about a lot of things to fill a teenage girl’s room as far as ground to wall, but there’s something else that can be placed to make it that much more lively.
Hanging planters.
These can be placed near a window or from ceiling hooks to add a fresh and lively touch without taking up desk or floor space, but make sure your teen has at least a little bit of a green thumb, because having hanging planters with dead plants in them is just depressing.

Potted Plants
Integrate a variety of potted plants around the room on desks, shelves, or in corners. Options like succulents, snake plants, or peace lilies are great for those new to plant care. Select quirky and colorful pots to mirror a teenager’s dynamic personality, tying the room’s decor together while maintaining a cheerful, natural vibe.

Every teen girl can benefit from a vanity mirror with lights, ideal for everything from doing homework to makeup application. These mirrors provide excellent lighting and a dash of Hollywood glamour, making them a popular choice for elevating the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the bedroom.

Customized Signs & Boards
A customized sign or cork board is a functional and somewhat fashionable way to keep organized and display favorite photos, notes, sayings, and mementos. A lot of times you’ll see people with light boxes with a few words or name associated with the person it belongs to. Like in the show The Circle, people use light boxes to kind of give themselves a mental boost.
And cork boards allow your teen to stab mementos into it.

Hand-Painted Furniture
Hand-painting furniture is a wonderful way to refresh old pieces or personalize new ones. Just…make sure she asks permission before she starts painting on furniture, because Mom might not want great-grandma’s prized bedside table to have hearts all over it.
I mean, it might make it look better, but also not a good idea to make Mom mad.
But simple stencils can help create professional-looking results even without expert painting skills, so maybe it wouldn’t be so bad?

Unique Shelving Displays
Floating Shelves
Floating shelves are not only a sleek addition to bedroom walls but also create functional space for displaying things, like photographs, figurines, plushies, and even plants. For the most part, they’d be decorative pieces that aren’t often taken down, as most of the stuff she’ll mess with should be on something within reach and on tables and such.

Cube Storage Units
Cube storage units are incredibly versatile and can serve both as storage and as display areas. These can be arranged creatively to form a larger shelving unit or used individually around the room, and as such it’s hard to find cube storage that specifically look interesting as it’s up to the teen to decorate it accordingly, or even place the cubes in their own pattern if they allow it.

Jewelry Organizers
Teenage girls aren’t only getting into their own looks make-up-wise, but also jewelry-wise. If they’ve got anything pierced at this point, it’s probably going to be pierced ears. Unless parents give them more leeway in what they want pierced–like nose or belly-button. Do girls like that as teens? Maybe if they’re party girls, let’s say, and at the end of their teens.
Here I am over here thinking about just thirteen year olds and I forget the rest of the age numbers.
Anyway, jewelry organizers can either be wall-mounted or standing, depending on what they favor, between necklaces or rings and piercings.

Trinket Trays
Trinket trays are perfect for housing smaller items like rings, hair pins, and lip balms, especially if the teenager doesn’t have a whole lot of jewelry to choose from and might just be starting their collection. These handy little trays can sit pretty on a nightstand or a study desk, for a quick grab.

Whimsical Dreamcatchers
Boho-Inspired Designs
For those who adore a bohemian aesthetic, which is to say, something a bit more on the free-spirited and hippy side of things if I’m not mistaken, boho-inspired dreamcatchers are the perfect choice. I don’t believe I’ve had a dreamcatcher myself, but I’m definitely more partial to the freestyle looks and feathers draping down.
Boho dreamcatcher can come in crochet detailing, colorful beads, and flowing feathers. These elements combine to give a relaxed and artsy vibe, and will hopefully provide a good night’s sleep.

Customized Dreamcatchers
Consider getting a dreamcatcher customized with elements that resonate more personally, such as favorite colors, birthstones, or specific symbols. These can of course be found in a boho designed one as well, but the customization can also include the teenager’s name. All of it combined will not only make a stunning visual centerpiece, but also a deeply meaningful gift for their birthday or special occasion.

Window Seat Cushions
Enhance a bedroom with a plush window seat cushion, making the most out of a sunny spot. Adding several fluffy pillows and a soft throw blanket completes the inviting spot, because who just wants to lay in bed to read a book?
It’s actually what I do and I can say firsthand it’s not the most comfortable. Also, their bed might not be near a window and who wants to look at a wall when they look away from the pages?

Bookshelf Organization
An organized bookshelf is essential for any reader’s retreat, and to help keep them sane in reading material as well as what’s been read and what hasn’t. She can categorize books either by genre, color, or author to create an aesthetically pleasing display.
