DoorDash – A Worthy Delivery for Meals You Crave

DoorDash – A Worthy Delivery for Meals You Crave

DoorDash makes it so you don’t have to rush somewhere to get your food on your 30-minute lunch. It also makes someone else go out in freezing cold weather to feed you in your nice and warm house.

For you, it puts the win in winter, right?

Of course, if you prefer to not pay a delivery fee, (because of not having DashPass), then you can always place an order for a possible pick-up.

DoorDash

Is DoorDash worthy of me?

  • No need to make your own breakfast, lunch, or dinner
  • Order food with a couple taps on an app
  • Don’t have to get out in crappy weather
  • Relying on strangers to bring you your food
  • Restaurants you like might not be on the app
  • Possibility of errors happening or long wait times or things coming up during the waiting process

I use it almost every day when I’m at work, due to a lot of fast food places being a bit farther out. It’s hit or miss whether I get food or not for lunch if there’s too many customers at McDonald’s before me.

And don’t even get me started on the 2021 quarantine.

I had to go without sushi for so long I almost forgot how good it tasted. (No, it’s not all raw fish–I used to think that too.)

It’s actually gotten to the point I don’t even drive out for lunch anymore. It’s just not worth it with a lot of the restaurants not having enough workers (which slows the drive-thru line down), so if I don’t really find anything that piques my interest on DoorDash, then I just don’t eat anything for lunch, or buy a snack from our supply vendor at work.

Be that as it may, I’ve used this app for several different restaurants–including ones I’ve never heard of before.

While the prices on DoorDash are higher than if you just order via the primary restaurants themselves, sometimes I’ve found that it works out for me to buy dinner size portions, just for my lunch breaks at work. They’re typically spaced out over several days and that makes the price worth it.

An example would be me buying Angel Hair with Shrimp dinner portion. It lasted for about four days for me, and priced at around $23, that’s a pretty good deal, divided between the days. It really all depends on limiting your portions, what you prefer eating, how much time your lunches are, and all that.

With gas prices being high as of March 2022, you might expect longer delays in deliveries if dashers can’t be found.

FAQ

Is there a way to know how many DoorDash drivers are in my area?

It’s a bummer to say it, but no, you can’t know how many DoorDash drivers there are in your area as there’s no way to track them within a set distance from you. Therefore the only way to really know if there are is to sign up for DoorDash and look for restaurants in your area. If they show up, then you’re in luck–drivers are available.

But just because there are drivers in the area, doesn’t mean they’re available.

I’ve purchased a delivery from a restaurant I’d never purchased from before and the app had to search for drivers, which was the only time that’s ever happened to me. If I remember correctly, it took an extra 10 minutes to find one.

Will DoorDash deliver alcohol?

Yes, DoorDash does deliver alcohol, depending on the storefront and if they sell the alcohol. As the person purchasing the alcohol, you’ll need to be the appropriate drinking age, which the dasher can check via your ID on the DoorDash app.

More on alcohol deliveries can be found on their website.

How much should I tip?

Honestly, I choose the lowest tipping option unless the weather is bad outside. So if it’s a downpour, snowing, thunderstorm, or any other hazardous kind of condition, then I’ll put extra into the tip, as it’s only courteous. They’re out in weather you don’t want to be in, delivering your food. Think about it.

How much is the DashPass?

It’s a $9.99 monthly charge or $96 per year.

While that seems like a lot, and it kind of is–it really depends on how much you’re going to use DoorDash. I spend about 20$ on sushi without it, and I order sushi a whole lot. Thus, DashPass makes it better for me to save, due to the 0 delivery fee (on certain stores and restaurants) and reduced fees over $10.

DoorDash DashPass

As of March 2022, I’ve saved over $1000 with the DashPass.

Have I had any problems with DoorDash?

I have! (Was that a little too excited?)

All problems have been on my end, though, not on the DoorDash team or app. They’re pretty quick to offer you a refund if something goes wrong.

Here, have a list of my oopsies:

  1. I ordered my usual sushi at the same time of delivery, but I didn’t realize the restaurant wasn’t open until later that day, so it had my order set to a different day on the time I requested. I contacted DoorDash about it and they fixed it by changing the time to when the restaurant was open.
  2. I got the wrong order. (I don’t know how I missed it; I order sushi from the same place so much I should’ve known it wasn’t the right bag.) The driver recognized the mistake and came back. We exchanged the bags of food, since I didn’t mess with the contents.
  3. The restaurant I ordered from didn’t give me the exact food I requested, so I got a partial refund from DoorDash.

Now, all that’s not to say that sometimes the food wasn’t that great, depending on the restaurant. Things are hit or miss when it comes to take-out or delivery. But, again, that’s not on the DoorDash team.

Plus, you can always rate both the driver and the food on the app, after delivery.

How did we find this product?

I use it!

Good lord do I use it. But I tone it down a little during the spring and summer and abuse it a bit more during the colder months. Sorry drivers. I really hate the cold.
