Take a trip to Tokyo near the Shibuya Station in Ghostwire: Tokyo, but while you’re enjoying the view and shops and lack of claustrophobic population, don’t forget to save the spirits of the populace.
The evil spirits were jealous of their lives, you know.
Is Ghostwire: Tokyo worthy of me?
- Nostalgia for those who’ve been or live near Shibuya Station
- Japanese lore
- Amazing combat system
- Movement stuttering on PC
- Tengu’s screeches are constant and annoying
- Cutscenes on PC could be off
My god, I absolutely love this game.
The combat is unique to me and the hand gestures are so cool to watch when you do different interactions. Not to mention despite having never been to Tokyo or anyplace near it, everything is nice to look at. And, having watched Gab’s first episode playthrough of Ghostwire: Tokyo, it’s fascinating to know that everything is recognizable, if with different names.
Of course, I’m also a sucker for the supernatural and myths and legends of other cultures. So seeing the Tengu and the different spirits and yokai, and even learning about them is a pleasure.
Now, I do play Ghostwire on PC and there are definitely flaws if you’re playing it on that platform, but if you’re playing it on the PS5 it should be smooth all around.
The PC version has occasional stuttering in your character’s movement that probably won’t be fixed unless the devs somehow do a patch to that specific problem. Another problem is de-syncing in cutscenes, which has a band-aid fix, mentioned below.
Despite this stuff, it’s been a delight to play.
There’s quite a bit to do and map to unlock throughout the entire playthrough of wanting to 100% the game.
I mean, think about it, there are 240,000 spirits to free. It might take a while to do since the floaters are all over the place.
FAQ
Is Ghostwire: Tokyo horror?
While there are technically moments that are considered jumpscares due to taking you by surprise, I wouldn’t place this into the horror genre. As someone who’s pretty jumpy and hates playing video games with a focus on horror, I just don’t see it here aside from a few moments, maybe.
How do you fix the cutscene lag?
If you’re playing on PC and don’t have a high-end computer with a 3090 graphics card, chances are you’re running into the occasional lag. There’s really nothing you can do as far as the stutters during Akito walking or running, but if you’re getting cutscene lag where the cinematic is too slow for the audio, there is something you can do as a workaround.
Go into Steam, right-click Ghostwire: Tokyo in your game’s list, go to Properties, in the textbox at the bottom type -dx11.
That should fix the cutscene lag for you.
