Mother’s Day 2021 – A Woman Worth More Than These Sales

0

Seriously, Mother’s Day is an important day, because we’re talking about a woman who was (possibly) with you from the very beginning. Before you even knew the hell you were going to become a part of, the anxiety of the world, the pressure it was going to put on you, the morons you’d meet in your life–your mom was there.

Speaking to you. Feeding you. Comforting you. Nagging at you.

You put her through hell, so it was only natural that she was going to bring you out into the same scenario.

And so she pushed you out and screamed through the process while a priest stood in the background and chanted incantations and Hail Marys like an exorcist scene in a horror film, the whole time clutching a cross like that’d save him from whatever crawled out of the black hole between her legs, as his other hand flicked holy water into the air.

Well…okay.

I don’t know much about child birth, it just sounded a bit more interesting, plus, I’m a writer and like to stretch the truth.

Anyway, what I’m getting at, is your mom is a special person, and Mother’s Day is a day meant specifically for her. Whether she’s your biological mom, your adoptive mother, your grandmother, godmother, stepmother, or what-have-you, it doesn’t matter.

A mom is a mom.

And while it’s overstated by too many people, but she’s not always going to be there. And time doesn’t have a pause button for when you’re busy.

So when this day comes around, stop what you’re doing.

Take the time to visit your mom. Video call, social gathering. Tell her you love her. Give her a hug. Give her a gift, if you want, but it’s not necessary. You’re the gift. Give her your time.

That’s all she’s ever wanted.

That’s all she ever needs.

Some facts about Mother’s Day

When is Mother’s Day 2021 in the USA?

This year the holiday falls on May 9, but it changes every year and therefore isn’t static. You can always count on it falling on the second Sunday of May each year, though.

If you want to know the dates of the other countries, you can find them on the Wikipedia page.

Who started the idea?

Mother’s Day first became celebrated as a national holiday in 1908 after Anna Maria Jarvis had started a campaign to make it a holiday on the same year her own mother died in the year 1905.

Although, the idea for this to happen had been ongoing for around 40 years before the actual creation of the holiday, with the help of Anna and another peace activist Julia Ward Howe.

What flower symbolizes Mother’s Day?

If you were thinking roses, then you thought wrong. They typically correspond to love and romanticizing someone, so they’re more catered to Valentine’s Day or Sweetest Day.

Mother's Day Carnation

The correct answer is the Carnation.

Want to read more about Carnations and why, exactly, they’re the main flower choice for Mother’s Day? Check out this post over on Holex to learn about their background and colors.

How many flowers are sold on Mother’s Day?

I did a lot of searching and couldn’t get an exact tally from anywhere, but according to SmartAsset, there are around 85.4 million moms in the US alone, and of all those moms, 69% of them receive flowers as gifts. That means about 58, 926,000 moms out there have flowers sitting somewhere in their houses that were given to them as a gift on Mother’s Day–be they fake or real.

That’s a lot of flowers.

And far be it from me to be the sayer of bad puns, but the flower business is blooming.

Plus, if we get down to the nitty-gritty of the cost aspect of it all–say all these customers went and bought the Sights of Spring Bouquet from ProFlowers which is $40. That’d total up the entire cost to $2,357,040,000.

That’s 2.3 billion dollars on that one bouquet, and it’s not even an expensive one!

What are the best gifts for Mother’s Day 2021?

This is completely mother-dependent and it’s such a difficult question to answer. It’s like answering someone’s question on how to write a story–there are a lot of ways to write a story–and even more ways to come up with a story idea, because they’re literally everywhere, if you’re paying attention.

But because we’re going to be guiding you in the direction of some of the better shops to head toward for the holiday, I figure it’s safe to give you some ideas on what people buy for their mothers for Mother’s Day.

  • Baking/Cookware products, because a lot of moms like to bake (at least, mine does), but not only that, new cookware is always nice to have in the kitchen.
  • New clothing, since when Mother’s Day comes around, it’s starting to head into the warmer weather
  • Flowers, as if this wasn’t going to be an obvious answer, right?
  • Gift cards are a huge thing for when you have no idea what to buy her, even with this post’s help.
  • Jewelry is another huge hit with moms (and just women in general, honestly).
  • Make-up has its perks in cheering people up and making them feel better about themselves, and this includes any kind of pampering that you can’t have done currently outside of the house.
  • Online learning in case she has a skill-set in something but wants to expand on it, you can buy her an online course that she can watch on something like Udemy!
  • Photography decor is always a must for moms, because they love showing off pictures of their family around the house.
  • Sweets for the sweetest person in our life–even though she’s sometimes a handful, just like we were to her (and probably still are).
  • Work-out products, because even moms want to stay in shape and keep healthy while maintaining a family lifestyle.
  • Yoga for the moms who have a bit too much stress going on in their lives right now, with their work or lack of work or dealing with the chaos the world has brought them in the recent years.

Online shopping suggestions for Mother’s Day

Does this mean this is a coupon post?

Heavens, no.

I’m one person working on helping you find the sites that best cater to what your mom might want on Mother’s Day without actually knowing what she likes. So some of these sites might offer coupons for the occasion, or even coupons in general, and that’s just a plus for you.

Otherwise, they’re simply sites that might have something for you to purchase for your mom.
