The Flying Pig – Now Worthy Enough to Debunk the Old Saying

The Flying Pig – Now Worthy Enough to Debunk the Old Saying

As the curtains open, you hear the delightful squeal of a flying pig descending from the ceiling. That or it’s screaming for its life, because let’s face it, pigs aren’t meant to flight, even if you do give them wings.

Eventually it’ll stop.

Like when the batteries die.

When will students get excited about conical pendulums, tangential velocity, or circular motion? When pigs fly, of course! This 5″ long, battery-operated pig has a 12″ wingspan and easily attaches to the ceiling with the supplied mounting hardware. Includes operating instructions.

Is this flying pig worthy of me?

I label this as a toy, because that’s what I (and possibly many others) see it as. But in actuality, it’s a product from Carolina that creates an example of rotational motion, in their “Force, Energy and Motion” category.

Don’t get me wrong. I mean, it is still a toy, but I find it interesting they have it set up as a science project example.

Perusing through more of their products, there are a lot of them that I never thought of as implementing the nature of science. And if you’re interested in the subject as a whole, I’d recommend looking through Carolina’s site.

So is the flying pig worthy of me?

Not particularly for me, as I’m not fascinated by the mechanics of it. A child might find it cool to have a pig flying above their head. As far as having something like this above a baby…it’d probably freak me out.

But who knows what their judgment on flying pigs are?

More Pigs for Flight

There are a lot of pig products out there that have wings, but it’s not every day you’ll find an actual flying pig. But…we managed to catch a few in our nets. Turns out they aren’t as rare as UFOs (which really aren’t that rare, if you think about it).
