1 Moment of Time: Silentville – Is It Worthy of Your Time?

The town might not have many people in it, but don’t let the title mislead you: 1 Moment of Time: Silentville is anything but silent.

Especially when those door hinges haven’t been greased in a while and you’re constantly going in and out of them, never propping them open with a random object like a smart person might do.

Is 1 Moment of Time: Silentville worthy of me?

  • Puzzles require time and thought–not easy peasy
  • Unique parchment art in cutscenes
  • Nice old-man voiceover for storytelling
  • Loud, obnoxious sound effects
  • Constant back-tracking

After you’ve finished this game once, it’s almost a headache just thinking about going into it again, if you’re an achievement collector and didn’t get all of them the first time around. Trust me, I’ve played this game multiple times, and I hate all the sound effects–primarily the doors.

They’re the worst–even more obnoxious than every floorboard in my house that creaks with the slightest shift of weight.

And I don’t say that lightly.

But that’s just my biggest gripe with the game. Pushing the sound effects aside, it’s actually pretty interesting with how the storyteller gives us information on what’s happening through hand-drawn images on what looks like parchment paper on the screen. I liked the effect and style they were going for.

Granted, this isn’t exactly a fairy tale that needs its story told through an old-man narrator, but it’s a nice touch nevertheless.

There is a lot of back-and-forth when you’re looking for things and what to do, and I did sometimes get stuck on what exactly I needed to do, but I think it was because I didn’t manage to pick up a specific item, and backtracking can also lead you to a hidden object scene that hadn’t been there prior.

Speaking of hidden object scenes, they’re a bit more on the tougher side.

You have to find an item in order to use it in another area to gather certain things to qualify for a certain item needed in the list. Meaning if you need cigars in a box, then you’ll have to find all the cigars and put them in said box individually before you can grab the item–cigars in a box.

It makes this HOG a bit tougher than just looking for one specific item, and you get more interaction time.

The puzzles aren’t too hard, but some of them can be a bit tedious. Like landing a ball in several hanging baskets. That one takes a bit of practice.

So if you’re tired of the easy HOGs and want a bit more of a challenge, this one is good, as long as you can handle the constant back and forth as well as the grating sound effects.

Otherwise, I wouldn’t return to this game.
