8 Worthy Courses to Check Out on Crocheting for Beginners
Looking for a simple to understand and lay-it-out-in-child-speech guide to Crocheting for Beginners?
Maybe you’ve browsed Worthy of Me and found some amazing crochet patterns that you’d love to learn, but you’ve got no knowledge on the art of crocheting?
Honorable Mention:In regards to an amazing crochet pattern, we urge you to check out this gas mask that actually comes with two different patterns (noted on the website). Definitely not beginner friendly. — Gas Mask Crochet Pattern – Worthy of Its Breathability |
I understand.
When I look at crochet work, I really can’t distinguish it from knitting, and when I look at how people crochet, my brain kind of fizzles and pops.
But that’s because I’ve never tried to learn it from the ground up. I was always into cross-stitching, and I’m pretty sure most of my family who did a lot of crafts only did a lot of knitting and sewing. So…nobody in my family really knows how to crochet either.
It’s time to remedy this little problem, no?
Which means this post is all about helping you in the one way we do best. Finding products that are worthy of you.
There are a lot of guides out there on crocheting for beginners, but I sifted through some of the better ones to hopefully give you the top products. That way you won’t have to surf the web and read about product after product–unless you want to, of course.
Some people have no lives.
Books
Keep in mind with books–they’re hit or miss depending on what you’re grabbing. If it’s an actual product paperback or hardback, then you’re probably going to have less of an issue with reading it and getting most out of the imagery and instructions.
If you’re going for a Kindle version, you might run into some hiccups where things don’t read or look as they should.
Crochet & Knitting: 2 in 1
If you don’t mind a double-whammy of knowledge (and really, who wouldn’t?), then this might be a book of interest.
I mean, if you’re going to learn one, you might as well learn its close second, right? You’ll be able to see the differences between the two crafts that people still question. And you’ll be learning two different styles of making crafts that you can possibly sell in the future.
Get Started: Crochet
So it looks like they’ve placed photographs in this book to give you a better understanding on how things look–and I don’t mean distance shots, but up close shots as well. I really like that, because some people learn through visual more than the written word.
Unfortunately a lot of guides out there just focus on tell, tell, tell.
Complete Crochet Course
Apparently this is one of the best crafting books on Amazon, and that’s saying something.
Then again, the title says it’s an “ultimate reference guide” so it had better be good. Not only does it offer photographs as well, but it seems to get into the nitty gritty of everything a crocheting beginner would need to understand, from techniques to tools to a few different projects to get them started.
Crochet for Beginners
Why do people feel the need to toss a hundred words into their title?
And while the description does make me cringe, it does have a lot of high-rated reviews to back up that it works. Just not as many people have read and reviewed it as of yet.
Still, it does seem to offer all the things a beginner would need to learn to crochet, so it might be worth taking a look.
Online Courses
Crochet Basics
I think I saw a few different courses to check out on Udemy, however this is the only one I picked out for you, because her mic quality is a lot better than the other courses. Not to dismiss them as bad, but Crochet Basics also got a variety of excellent reviews as a beginner course to crocheting.
4 Core Crochet Stitches
Skillshare had a lot of courses that focused on a specific type of crocheting, instead of crocheting in general. Except this one. It’s the perfect course for a beginner to learn the types of crochet stitches there are and how to go about implementing them into the craft.
Crochet with Jonah
Yeah, that’s right. A kid is teaching you how to crochet. How much of a novice do you feel like right now, huh? Since when did the whipper-snappers start teaching us old folk a thing or two about things we don’t know?
Beats me, but it’s refreshing to see.
Crochet for Beginners
I love all the stuff this course lays out for you. From how to hold the different hooks and how to hold the yarn, as well as the different types of stitches and how each one should be implemented regarding the end result of them. Not to mention you get to craft a variety of different objects that you might actually use in the future.
Maybe.
