Guardians of the Galaxy Game – Worthy of a Star-Lord Huddle

Guardians of the Galaxy Game – Worthy of a Star-Lord Huddle

Think you’re ready to play as an official Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy game? Can you handle the constant eye-twitch blathering of the weapon’s expert Rocky Raccoon Rocket and his three-worded faithful companion, (whom we’re all playing this game for, let’s be real)–GROOT?

Well boot it up already then, geez.

Is the Guardians of the Galaxy game worthy of me?

  • Amazing graphics
  • Interesting combat system (stagger bar, character-specific abilities, “huddle”)
  • Great for any Guardians of the Galaxy fan
  • If you’re a streamer, you’ll be talking over the characters a lot
  • Quality Mode may have FPS drops

Oh man this game looks amazing and of course it does because Guardians of the Galaxy as a Square Enix game shouldn’t be a letdown by any means.

You’ve got your galactic team watching your back–or making fun of it, as is often the case with Rocket–and when they do come to aid you in battle they bring some pretty impressive skillsets. Not only do the individual characters have their own skills you can use to help out in battles, but there are also some unique little games that apparently Rocket likes to set up, according to the start.

He hacks your screen basically and there’s a scoreboard for clearing parasite nests near the beginning of the game.

Pretty neat. Someone’s competitive.

I can’t say what the overall game is going to be like at the moment, as I’ve only seen a small glimpse of the gameplay, but it doesn’t seem like an open world setup. Everything seems to play out in a very linear fashion.

However, that’s just what I got from the intro of the game.

The meat of it could be completely different.

What I do know is there is a lot of back and forth banter between the characters. Like, if you’ve over played the game Oxenfree? The characters talk a lot in that. Or Draugen? The girl (I forget her name) speaks constantly when you’re not doing anything. If you’re a content creator and you livestream games to an audience, you’ll definitely be talking over the characters–there’s no getting around it.

They’re loudmouths.

Specifically Rocket.

FAQ

When is the release date for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game?

It’s scheduled for release on October 26, 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X & S, and Nintendo Switch

Is the Guardians of the Galaxy game open world?

After playing it, I can say that no, it’s not open world. However, that doesn’t mean that Square Enix didn’t implement side areas that you can find and explore for either components or other items.

What’s the “Star-Lord Huddle”?

It’s actually part of the combat system.

You can activate a “Huddle” once the green bar around the icons of your teammates is full to gather your teammates together in order listen to what they have to say. By picking out specific words they use and saying the correct thing to them, they’ll become resurrected and help you out with a damage boost…or possibly not if you fail to say the right thing, meaning only you get the damage boost.

What are the Guardians of the Galaxy game character abilities?

Each character you have some kind of control of in a battle–Peter, Rocket, Groot, Drax, and Gamora–have a total of four abilities you can unlock, given time. The first three abilities of each character is unlocked through ability points.

The fourth abilities, however, are unlocked through game progression, so there’s no need to hold onto your points in order to activate those in the long run.

I’ll note some of the best abilities to unlock first in bold.

Peter Quill (Star-Lord) Abilities:

Guardians of the Galaxy game character abilities

  • Vantage Point
  • Fan the Hammer – An AoE rapid-fire ability that dishes out heavy damage? Why wouldn’t you want to choose this one, honestly? It’s great for taking down the last remaining enemies that the others weren’t able to, perhaps, or just weakening a big boss you’re up against. Just make sure you’re not standing off in the background, because you’ll need to be at close range for Fan the Hammer to have max damage. We aren’t McCree over here.
  • Eye of the Hurricane
  • Shield of Spartax
Rocket Abilities:

Guardians of the Galaxy game character abilities

  • Cluster Flark Bomb
  • Gravistack Grenade – This ability is particularly useful to get first for Rocket due to its capability to group up enemies for a possible follow-up group attack from another comrade. Not only that, but it has a short cooldown, allowing it to be used more often in tight situations.
  • Glowing Pains Grenade
  • Five Barrel Barrage
Groot Abilities:

Guardians of the Galaxy game character abilities

  • Entangle
  • Uproot
  • Mammoth Grab – It’s an ability meant for the single enemies, so it’s not the best in a group fight with the annoying mobs you have to deal with, but if there’s one heavy hitter that’s causing you grief, or you’re in a boss fight, it’s really good to have as it’ll leave them vulnerable.
  • Gift of the Florae
Drax Abilities:

Guardians of the Galaxy game character abilities

  • Destroy
  • Katathian Charge
  • Pound and Pummel – What can you say? When Drax slams enemies into the air and down onto the ground, there’s really not much they can do, but you can do a whole lot to them, damage-wise, so it’s a really nice ability to take as far as a crowd-control area.
  • Wrath of Katath
Gamora Abilities:

Guardians of the Galaxy game character abilities

  • Deadly Strike
  • Shadow Strike – This ability can be combined with Rocket’s because Gamora can dash from one enemy to the next, dealing moderate damage to them. However, even if there aren’t any enemies grouped up, Gamora will continuously attack a single enemy multiple times, making this a nice pick for both single target and multiple target fights.
  • Stagger Wave
  • Executioner

Where do you find the character outfits?

Every character outfit can be found within Guardians of the Galaxy–although some are only obtained after you’ve beaten the game. This includes the outfits that those who pre-ordered the game had received, along with those who had bought the deluxe edition of the Guardians of the Galaxy game.
