Port Royal, Jamaica – Worthy of a Pirate’s Reminiscence

Port Royal, Jamaica – Worthy of a Pirate’s Reminiscence

Did you know the city of Port Royal, Jamaica used to be a popular hangout for scurvy pirates and their booze-swindling, prostitute jollying ways?

You probably did.

It was known as the “most wicked and sinful city in the world,” but when it comes to shipfuls of pirates being welcomed on the docks and in the bars, that’s kind of a legitimate name, don’t you think? Nothing good comes from their visits, unless it’s a night of false pleasures and a pocket full of lost change.

Need a history lesson?

I can’t give you any information on this place, aside from the bare minimum that I know of. So if you crave more, you can find more information on Port Royal, Jamaica and its sunken city on Atlas Obscura.

Is vacationing to Port Royal, Jamaica worthy of me?

Well, while the city might’ve gotten a bad rap back then, these days, it gives us the satisfaction of understanding the place a bit more.

I mean, it was swallowed up by an earthquake back in the day, but Kingston offers a whole lot of areas of vacationing in order to look back on its history and some of the big names of pirates that meandered around the port. Not to mention relics that were gathered from the underwater losses.

I’m by no means a history buff. As a family, I remember vacationing to a variety of historical sites, but as a young kid, I never much enjoyed history lessons.

But some of the different trinkets and things were cool. Like cannons or landmarks.

My dad enjoyed those types of places a whole lot more, but if there’s anything I’d like to do in this area, it would be the Pirates of Port Royal Exotic Tours and Excursions.

I’m not a fan of open water, but it’d be an experience to be out there and learning of the pirates and such, instead of meandering around in the forts, pausing every so often to admire a piece of history.
