Re:Turn – One Way Trip – A Game Worth A Train Trip of Horror

Re:Turn – One Way Trip is one of those games where you end up waking up in the middle of the night all alone, with no idea where your friends are, after a creepy, intense campfire event that both worried and scared everyone.

Emotions are on high–would you search for your friends in the dead of night, or would you crawl back to bed?

Re:Turn - One Way Trip

Is Re:Turn – One Way Trip worthy of me?

  • Mixes it up between pixel art and soft-shaded hand-drawn art
  • Travel between past and present
  • Nice soundtrack
  • Puzzles are a little iffy
  • Storyline is a bit convoluted and confusing
  • Couldn’t connect with characters

This is a bit of a mixed bag of ups and downs as you can tell from the pros and cons, but make no mistake, I really liked playing this game, and there were several moments in the game that kind of pinged in my mind.

Like at the start when they were all gathered around the campfire talking, I was reminded of Are You Afraid of the Dark, which set up something bad was about to happen. And then when Yuuta runs off on his own and nobody goes after him, you expected something bad to happen to him. And then when you approach the abandoned train, you had to know it was going to be some kind of haunted.

So that was about the gist of everything I got from the game, I just didn’t know anything else I’d be stepping into.

Re:Turn – One Way Trip is certainly a horror/psychological horror, but not super scary.

It’s a side-scroller pixel art game with some jump scare attempts that aren’t as intense as a lot of the first person or third person games. So if you can’t handle those games, but can handle low-key horror games, this might be right up your alley.

Trust me, I hate horror, but I like this kind of horror, as well as visual novel horror.

The one thing the devs could’ve worked a bit harder on was character development. I just couldn’t really connect with any of them, even with the character I was playing with for the most part.

How did we find this product?

I purchased it during the Steam Summer Sale, because it was on my Steam wishlist and so I also started playing it as well!
