We all know major companies (for the most part), but what I love most is perusing through local small businesses and seeing if they have anything of worth–and here we are featuring some handmade in Ohio small businesses!
I had to start with Ohio first because, well, I live here.
No, please, don’t cry for me. I cry enough as it is.
Looking through all these shops actually reminded me of the few times I went to Trader’s World and checked out some handmade products people were selling. I didn’t go there very often, but I actually thought of opening a small shop at one time because I made artwork that needed selling.
Never happened though, but I guess that’s a good thing, as I sort of fell out of my artistic habit.
You Ohioans didn’t disappoint me with your products though.
They’re not as weird as I would’ve figured.
Handmade in Ohio Small Businesses
Common Scents Wax Co
This is one of the smaller of the Ohio small businesses that we found, which is actually a good thing, because we can kind of give them a leg up and help them out with sales or even ideas on candle scents. They do have a custom orders section where you can request a specific scent, so I’d kind of like to see someone give them an intriguing scent to make and see if they do wonders with it.
Maybe they’ll make it into a product that they’ll sell to boost their inventory some more.
Our worthy choice:
Cedar Knoll Creations
Not too many items in this shop, but they’ve sold over 1,000 items, so that should tell you something about their work.
The few items they have pay homage to the state of Ohio, so if you enjoy being in the state, or if you love the memory of it for whatever reason, you should totally show your support for this small business who clearly loves it just as much.
Our worthy choice:
Decorate Your Big Day
Whether it’s for a birthday party, your first big catch of the day, or any other kind of special event, Decorate Your Big Day has a shop full of decorations dedicated to, well, special events.
So if something is coming up, why not check the merch out?
And if something is coming up in the near future that they don’t have anything for, but you’re interested in the style they create, why not send them a message and see if they can’t make something for you?
It could be the next thing in their shop.
Our worthy choice:
Furball Fanatic
Have a furball that needs new toys to play with that involve catnip and getting high through the night so you’ll never be able to sleep? Furball Fanatic has nothing but what your druggy cat craves then.
This is the only one of the Ohio small businesses that I found that catered to cats–or animals in general, and it’s pretty interesting. I didn’t expect to find one that catered to the four-legged variety and it surprised me.
I guess I’m so used to seeing pet products in large retail stores that I don’t really see them in the small business sections.
Yet here we are!
I’d definitely give them a go if your cat needs a temporary fix.
Our worthy choice:
JoshCarteArt
Wow this shop features some amazing wood carvings. Each of them hand-carved to not-quite perfection, which makes them all the better to own and love. Knowing someone put time into crafting unique products out of wood.
Our worthy choice:
JoyfulGnomes
If you like collecting little figurines for your home that don’t take up a whole lot of room and look cute to boot, JoyfulGnomes has a variety of little gnomes for a variety of occasions.

Meagan’s Craft Room
This store doesn’t offer too much, but what I found, I found to be very humorous.
They stick (no pun intended) to decals, mainly, and they use a lot of them on instant pots, which makes what they say all the funnier. So if you have an instant pot that’s looking a little bare, look through this store.
Our worthy choice:
The Mostar Honey Co
If you’re a bee lover, or know someone who is, then you might want to check this shop out. They have a variety of raw honey products as well as products featuring cute bee designs.
I’m not a fan of the little buzzers, but I can respect them. At a distance.
They make some darn good honey though.
And those honeycomb designs are unique.
Hey, remember how I said I didn’t find very many Ohio small businesses that catered to four-legged creatures? Well, I stand by the statement. Even weirder was finding one that revolved around these little flying sluggers. But hey, beekeepers are out there. Respect the business.
Our worthy choice:
My Turquoise Kitten
Sort of an odd name given that it doesn’t really coincide with what they sell. But it’s memorable in its own way.
If you love earrings that tend to have a much different look than what you’re used to, this is your kind of place. Just don’t expect to actually be able to use the toilet paper earrings if you happen to buy them.
They aren’t for emergency use.
Our worthy choice:
Ohio Workshop
Well with a name like this they better have made themselves known in Ohio, given they’re on my Ohio small businesses post! Don’t let the workshop part fool you, though. They’ve made some adorable products, a lot of them actually 3D printed.
If you’re looking for a succulent planter, then check out these cuties.

Our worthy choice:
Vintage Book Art Co
I will say, their products were kind of false advertisement, because I thought they actually drew some artwork and printed that art out onto an old newspaper page, but looking at some, I think these are mainly stock photos.
Still, they’re a conversation piece, for sure.

In conclusion…
I had a lot of fun finding the Ohio small businesses, and I’m happy that what initiated it was actually an e-mail from Amazon talking about the “Handmade” section they have which separates the different states. I thought that was pretty cool, and then I thought it would be pretty interesting to promote different small business by state.
Of course, I didn’t want all the business to be Amazon-specific, so I tried to do Google searches…which was a flop.
I can’t do retail businesses, it has to be online. And even then, Google wasn’t that great at helping me out. So the only other place I knew to look as far as small businesses was Etsy, since they cater to them really well.
Again, it was a hard search and find, though I spotted a couple.
Still, it was fun finding a variety of worthy products in my hunt for Ohio small businesses. It wasn’t all for naught.
I look forward to more of these types of posts.
Hopefully you do too.
